You have a nice car or truck with your chrome mag wheels, fresh paint job spruced up interior. You have given it a thorough cleaning and shined the tires. You crawl in it with your best girl and it deathly quiet! It is time for a sound system!
Car stereos can be extremely inexpensive or incredibly over the top wallet breaker! Not all cheap systems are noticeable and not all expensive systems perform as you would expect. If it is not installed correctly or not hooked up with compatible parts, it is not going to perform well.
Whether or not a sound system is good is dependent on the person listening to it. For some, any music is fine and for others, it may need to be loud, thumping, car vibrating to be a great system. It is all in the ear of the beholder. Only you can decide what is best and most economically reasonable for you to spend on a car stereo.
The type of vehicle you have also comes into play with what type of system you should buy or build. Most of what we hear in a vehicle is a recording of the artist in a studio environment, but can sound totally different when it comes through your speakers. A good stereo system is built by someone with the knowledge and understanding of electronics, what products are available to be used and acoustics.
It is best to get references and compare different systems that are available. Go to car shows or expositions and there is usually a ‘sound guy’ booth there that can educate you on what is best for you based on your expectations. Go from booth to booth and they will likely have head phones for you to listen to their systems and can tell you why theirs is the best bang for your buck. You should be able to easily see the difference between those who know their sounds and those who don’t, so don’t just settle for talking to one person and buying from them. Do your homework before you invest in a new sound system for your car or truck.
